Strengthening Synergy: UNICEF Field Office Retreats Across Nepal
Milestone Synergy had the privilege of partnering with UNICEF Nepal to design and facilitate a series of transformative staff retreats. These high-impact sessions were conducted across four key strategic locations—Bhairahawa, Surkhet, Dhangadi, and Janakpur—and aimed at harmonizing team dynamics and elevating professional standards across the regional field offices.
Core Objectives
The primary mission of these retreats was to move beyond the daily operational grind and invest in the “human element” of the organization. Key focus areas included:
-
Soft Skills Mastery: Equipped field staff with advanced leadership, management, and decision-making capabilities.
-
Cultural Transformation: Fostered a positive, inclusive workplace culture rooted in mutual respect and support.
-
Enhanced Collaboration: Strengthened team cohesion to ensure more efficient and unified project delivery.
-
Holistic Well-being: Introduced mindfulness and stress management practices to help staff maintain emotional balance in high-pressure field environments.
Program Highlights & Methodology
Each retreat was meticulously crafted to be interactive and experiential, moving away from traditional lectures to a “learning-by-doing” approach:
-
Building Trust (The Foundation): We utilized innovative icebreakers and “Trust Challenges” (such as the Cone Challenge and Pick a Cup) to break down professional barriers and build immediate camaraderie.
-
Communication & Cultural Sensitivity: Staff engaged in deep-dive sessions on diverse communication styles (assertive vs. passive vs. aggressive), emphasizing clarity and precision through activities like Back-to-Backdrawing challenges.
-
Emotional Intelligence (EI) in Action: Participants explored the four main competencies of EI—self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management—reflecting on how these skills improved conflict resolution in the field.
-
Creative Problem Solving: Teams competed in structural challenges like the Marshmallow & Spaghetti Challenge, learning to innovate and adapt quickly under limited resource constraints.
-
Mindfulness & Connection: To support well-being, we integrated early morning nature walks and guided meditation, allowing teams to start their day with calm and focused energy.
The Milestone Impact
The impact of these retreats was immediate and measurable, with an overall participant satisfaction rating of 3.4 out of 4. By the conclusion of each session, every staff member walked away with a personalized “Action Plan” to implement their new skills in their daily professional life.
By aligning the teams across Bhairahawa, Surkhet, Dhangadi, and Janakpur, Milestone Synergy helped UNICEF Nepal build a more resilient, empathetic, and high-performing workforce dedicated to the welfare of children across the nation.
